The First Edition of the Irish Press was published on the 5th of September 1931

The First Edition of the Irish Press was published on the day before the 1931 All-Ireland hurling final between Kilkenny and Cork.

The paper was founded by Éamon DeValera, with the political leanings of the publication clearly being in the favour of Republicanism and Fianna Fáil. The first editor was Irish Volunteer Frank Gallagher.

The Irish Press ran until the 25th of May 1995 when it closed due to financial difficulties which were exacerbated by industrial action.
