Killaloe-Ballina Local History Society began with an informal community meeting in our local library, on 23rd August 2017. We were delighted with the excellent turnout of over twenty people who were excited to start a conversation about the rich heritage of our local landscape.
We are still in our salad days, and you are welcome to get involved in whatever way suits you. We held four brilliant talks during September, October, November, and December 2017. We continued to hold monthly talks throughout 2018, which we advertised on this website and on our Facebook page (click here to follow us!). In 2017 these talks were held in Killaloe Library, however we outgrew that venue with attendances in excess of 50 people, and moved to a new venue in January 2018. This new venue was Wood and Bell Café on Main Street, Killaloe; we would like to thank management and owners for donating the use of this beautiful historic space free of charge.
In November 2018, we moved to our a new venue , and we are thrilled with the offer of accommodation from The Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre in Ballina. We are very happy with our new home and the management and staff look after us so well!
If you would like to get more involved with the behind the scenes of the society, please email us at killaloeballinalhs@gmail.com, and we’ll let you know when the next committee meeting is. This is just where we have a coffee and a chat about future projects and plans. Don’t be shy!
