Looking for marriage and immigration records
Hugh Dougherty married Anna Mooney about 1847 before leaving for America They were both about 18 years old Her parents were Cornelius Mooney and Mary Gallagher/ Hugh had a younger brother Thomas, and I think their father's first name was John. I was told they came from a place called Ardrath [not sure if I got that right] in Donegal. Looking for any family left there in Ireland
Hi there! Do you know where Hugh Dougherty settled in America? I'm looking for my great, great, great Grandfather Thomas Dougherty. He lived, at least for a while in County Down, but there are Hughs in his family. It's a long shot, but if your Hugh Dougherty settled in PA or OH there may be a connection.
By the way, as I understand it, all Doughertys (and variants) can be traced to Donegal. I've not been able to make that connection for my descendents, but did visit Donegal and met with the chair of the Dougherty Geneaological Society. He was very kind and welcoming and showed many of the "Dougherty sites". Let me know if you 'd like more information about that.
