On the 2nd of January, 2007, Irish was officially recognised as an EU language.
This meant that for the first time, all EU documents would be made available in the native Irish tongue.
The need for translators created almost 30 new jobs in the EU.
Irish was the 23rd lannguage to receive this honour.
