The Abbey Theatre, Ireland's National Theatre, opened its doors for the first time on the 27th of December 1904. 

The theatre was founded by Lady Augusta Gregory and William Butler Yeats, amongst other notable names of the time. 

The Abbey was a key componant in the Irish Literary Revival which saw a flourishing of writing come from Ireland once more.
