Queen Victoria’s 1st visit to Ireland, August 2-12, 1849.

My maternal grandfather was born in Buttevant, County Cork on May 6,1849. In the family, his birthdate was always referred to as “the year that Queen Victoria visited Ireland “ Her 1st visit on August 2-12,1849 was to Cork (Cobh) which she renamed Queenstown.
