On the 2nd of February 1922, James Joyce published his great novel, Ulysses.

The novel is set in Dublin 16th of June 1904, a date now known as Bloomsday, after the central character, Leopold Bloom.

The first edition was published in Paris on Joyce's 40th birthday when 1,000 copies were printed, including 100 signed ones.

The book presented a huge task for editors and publishers as it contains a number of deliberate mistakes.

The book was well received in literary circles, but the stream of consciousness narrative made it difficult for some people to understand the complexities of the novel.

Ulysses is still regarded today as one of the greatest novels to be produced, not only by Ireland, but by anyone in the world.
