Hi there, looking for any information available on the extended Alley family who lived hereabouts, in particular Rev Peter Alley (3 generations of Reverend Peter Alleys!), son Rev Henry Alley and possibly his son, Rev Henry Baldwin Alley. Looking also for anything on Charles Alley of Newtown, Queens Co. who married Elinor Phillips of Frankfort, Kilkenny. I have been researching this family for a really long time and am stuck on this one link of the family out of 500 years of history!

Hello again,
I forgot to ask if you have any idea of when they lived, even approximately.

Paddy.

Rosie, I am interested in your posts re Charles Alley and Elinor Phillips. I believe they are ancestors of mine through a daughter Elizabeth who married Thomas Roe. However the dates, which you and others have suggested would appear to be wrong (unless we have another Charles & Elinor). Charles & Elinor recived a marriage licence from the Diocese of Ossory dated 23rd April 1748, which would make the grandparents (ore even great grand parents) of the John Alley RIC (b.1803) whom you mention. If you would let me have me your e-mail address I can send you a copy of the information. Best wishes, David Orr

Hi David, yes you are absolutely correct- I also found this record of the Charles Alley/ Elinor Phillips marriage being in 1748 and have ever since been trying to place them in the Alley family tree (if indeed they belong in there). it might have been after I posted my earlier comments. I even asked the Roots Ireland people (where I found it) to please check the date as it is so different to the currently accepted collective wisdom of 1794- which I think is just someone's guess that has now made it into the "canon" of Alley history by virtue of being quoted so many times! (sigh). I have been trying to verify the date of 1748 through other records with limited success. I have looked up between 4-500 deeds and have found out many things but have only been able to make connections via following the progress of the transactions of various townlands that seemed to have been in the hands of the Phillips family and later were in the hands of the Alley family, potentially through that marriage but so far I haven't come across any specific deeds about that (although the Phillipses were prolific makers of deeds). Sorry Paddy also I triedto answer your quesitons earlier and something went wrong. These families were Protestant and the era they lived in was the late 1700s to mid 1800s around Queen's Co and Kilkenny, specifically Loughill and Fermoyle townlands. My email is rosie.alley28@gmail.com and I have come across some info on the connection you mentioned with Elizabeth Alley and the Roe family and would love to hear any insights! Thank you, Rosie
