Hello, I am searching for information regarding my great-grandaunt and uncle Anna A Murphy and Matthew Murphy. I am trying to determine their place and date of birth. They both immigated to the United States along with six of their brothers and sisters. Their brother Patrick remainded in Ireland. On Matthew's Naturalization documentation he lists Feohanagh as his place of birth. This is consistent with the birth places of the brothers and sisters (Appletown Townland/Broadford/Feohanagh). Their father was William Joseph Murphy and their mother was Hanoria Murphy (nee Madigan).

Matthew and Anna never married and lived together, in Schenectady New York, until their passing. Their mother, Hanoria, is buried in Aglish Cemetery.

There are several Murphys buried in Aglish Cemetery. I am not sure the relation between all of them, but from what I have generally gathered probably cousins and/or second cousins? Maybe Matthew and Anna are brother and sister, but not necessarily the son and daughter of William and Hanoria? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Birth years from various sources

Matthew Murphy

The subscription site Roots Ireland has Anna baptized February 26 1873 in Mahoonagh Parents William Murphy and Hana Madigan. There were seven other younger siblings listed but no Matthew. The youngest was Mary in 1884. I did not find any Matthew Murphy baptismal records in Mahoonagh RC parish.

I tried to find a civil birth record for Matthew with no success. There were a son William baptized December 30 1878. I located his civil birth record which was registered late and his mother changed his date of birth to February 27 1879 to avoid a fine for registering the birth late. See eighth record at this link. They lived in a townland called Appletown in Mahoonagh civil parish.

Besides William, there was a son Michael baptized in January 1878 and Patrick baptized November 1 1881. Possibly one of these two was baptized one name but Matthew was the name he used.

I don't see the family in the 1911 census and I did not see a death record for William Sr. and Hanora but I will continue to look.
