Any info on the above would be most welcome. They are my great grandparents. I’m fairly certain they came from Donegal but don’t have anything conclusive.

If John and Annie had any children born in Scotland in 1855 or 1861 onwards, then the date and place of their marriage should be recorded on the children’s birth certificates. That might be an easy way of finding where they came from. And if there was an 1855 birth, then the birth certificate also says where and when the parents were born. (It was dropped after 1855 as too time consuming).
