Hello I live in australia and I have been researching my family history of the O'Connors and have fround my great great grandfather Humphrey O'Connor and wife Julia Connor married in Glenbeigh Killarneyparish 1835 through Irelandi.e. they had 6 kids Patrick 1836 Margaret 1838 Michael 1840 Denis 1848 Mary 1851 and my great grandfather John in Toursaleen Dromod parish in 1857. John married a girl Mary Anne O;Leary in Tralee in 1882 and joined the British Army. I think I have found Humphreys Parents but I have an Irish cousin who disputes this :( So this is what i have found of HUmphreys parents ( I hope ) from Ireland i.e. research portal
Dominc O'Connor married Catherine O'Donnaghue in 1811 in Glenagh Killarney parish so far I have only found 3 children (still looking ) so John born in 1812 Killarney Parish Patrick born Killeen Kilarney Parish and Humphrey born 1817 West Killeen Kilarney Parish ..I know how easy it is to go off track and perhaps I have grasped at just the name of one of their sons Humphrey ??? but my Irish cousin disputes this finding on 2 grounds which you might be able to confirm she says DOminic cannot be Humphreys father because of the old tradition of naming your first born after the father ? Is this set in stone as Humphrey who married Julia named his first born Patrick?? second reason she rejects Dominic as our great great great grandfather is because of the different parish which is far away from where Humprey eventually settled in Cahersiveen on his land still farmed to day by my cousin's brother with ruins of 2 stone huts Humphrey built there also..So I have no idea how far West killeen is from Glenbeigh or caherciveen but with evictions and famine and no work how far would a family travell in those days seeking work /shelter etc she also tells me that her grandfather always told her that humphreys family came from around castleisland could dominics family have moved that far eventually walking getting jobs along the way over the years ???? I fear she may be correct but will rely wholey on anybody out there way over in Kerry who can help kinds regards Maureen ( aussie)

Maureen:
I'm not in Ireland and hopefully others will comment. The naming pattern was not followed in 100% of the situations with first born sons. A high percentage for sure.
Killarney town is 40 miles east from Cahersiveen town which is a great distance in the 19th century and for that reason the 1817 Humphrey may be from a different family.

Maureen,
The naming pattern wasn't followed 100% so it is possible that Dominic was the father of Humphrey. Also they seem to be from Glenbeigh which is only 30 km from Cahersiveen, half way bewtwwn Killarney and Cahersiveen and a more plausible distance. I'm not sure where Killeen is, but Glenbeigh wouldn't be considered in Killarney Parish. Killeen may be in Killarney Poor Law Union, which would cover a much larger area.
Best wishes, Kieran
