Hi, looking for some information on Bartholomew Plunkett from Clonsilla, he was one year old in the 1911 census and i know he joined the Irish Guards at some stage, would love if anyone could advise me on where i could start to look for him!

  • Hello Julia, I assume you mean the Garda or police force here in Ireland and not the military in the British Army, regiment known as the Irish Guards, there is a Garda Museum here and I found them helpful previously, https://www.garda.ie/en/About-Us/Our-History/The-Garda-Museum-at-Dublin… Send an email and hope.

I see a wrong marriage here but the name is unusual so may mean something, father is wrong but the Christian name is a bit unusual so may mean something to you. Also only this mans father death is online on Irish Genealogy https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ The death records only go to 1970 so he may have died later but he does not appear to have married before 1941 either. This site is free but sign in etc

    Good Luck

  • Julia I cannot see the chap in the census for 1901 or 1911, there is a death in British Military records for a Barlte Plunkett who died in a prisoner of war camp in 1915 (22 June) born Clonsilla, Dublin, there is an identical record for Flanders Germany so am assuming he was captured there, same date given but the actual entry is the first one, he was in the Dublin Fusiliers.

He would be far too young to be your man so I assume he is the fella from Rush who I mentioned above, can see no other birth records and cannot see a census either.

However the fella who died in the war is not the Rush fella because he died in 1965 of heart disease and his daughtre Margaret Ryan was present.

We are missing something, or there is an incorrect entry somewhere, do you know your mans parents or who else was on the census.

    It is a right puzzle.

  • Forgot to mention Pat, dont think Bartholomew died in the war as my mother vaguely remembers him calling to see her mother, who is bartholomews sister, said her mother always had a photo of him hanging on the wall and had a lovely red uniform!
