  • Do you have your grandmother's birth certificate or baptismal certificate?  If not, then you may not have her correct age.

Headstone information is entered by someone hired by the family to do so. The stonemason may not have been given the correct information or he may have erred.

  • Any stonemason etc I have ever dealth with will insist on the person who wants the marker done actually writing out the inscription so as there can be no dispute re. spelling ,date etc .

Was it long after her death that the headstone was inscribed ?

Where did you get her birth year ?If its from her birth cert/entry in the register then that should be 100% .the only slight possibility is that her parents had a child of that name in 1906 who died at or shortly after birth and a subsequent child born in 1908 was given the same name .Find that some infant deaths might not be recorded but usually no way to prove it ,rather by inference when another child in the family is given the same name .

Age on death cert is given by the person notifing the death so that may not be correct as they may not have know the date /year of birth .

Agha, I understand the above completely. But this does not preclude the informant from giving the stonemason the wrong info.

My gg-grandmother died at sea in 1863, yet the headstone on which she's memorialized says she died in 1861.

    I hope this helps.

  • Dotty,  what was her name?
Some records I have seen use the registration date not the birth date.
To be really sure a name search can confirm the date.
Do you know the Christian names of the parents?

  • I looked on RootsIreland for a Bridget Cunningham born to Michael and Mary and came up with nothing. When I expanded the year of the search, I found a Bridget Cunninghama b. 10 Feb 1902 in the parish of Fethard in Tipperary. Lived in townland of Rathkenny. Mother Mary Strappe, father Michael Cunningham.
    Could this be your Bridget?

  • Dotty, Is this the same Cunningham and Brady family?

    The Mother was Mary Reddington?
Did Bridget (also can be Mary) have a brother called Simon?

  • Hello Agha
The Bridget is right yes. I never knew any of the other children apart from John and he married a lady called Agnes and lived in Liverpool and had children. So I am shocked at that. Just wish I could find a marriage somewhere for James and bridget x

  • If the above is the correct family then this looks like them in 1911 I think .

    And in 1901

No Brigid on 1911 census .
