I have recently discovered the marriage record for my 3 X great grandparents (see attached). Richard Bowes and Mary Downey married on 26 Aug 1819 in Durrow. The record states that the name of the parish is Durrow Aughmacart. I know of two children who were born in Ireland prior to the family's emigration to Canada prior to 1830. The children born in Ireland are; John Bowes ca 1821-23 and Timothy Bowes ca 1823-25 (not sure if they lived in the same parish.) Their next child was born in Kingston, ON ca 1830. I'm also wondering if the baptism record for a Mary Downey Apr 1802 to parents Pat Downey and Ally McGrath from the same parish would be my Mary Downey.
I am hoping to locate further information in regard to this family especially if there is a record of Richard Bowes and Mary Downey's ancestors.
Cheers and thank you,
Jill Hankewich

Hi . . .
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out . . .
You pose a tough query . . . specially going that far back in time . . .
I did a little tracing . . on " Roots " (paid) . . . and found . . proof of your findings . . . Birth of Mary Downey 1802 Durrow (see below)
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Then I searched for her Parents . . . Patrick / Ally . . . with NO results . . .
Next I went to our NLI (National Library ) https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0968 .. where all the R.C. Parish records are listed . . .
BUT . . . as you will see . . . Marriage records for DURROW . . . only begin in 1811 . . .
_________________________________________________________________________________
Next my Roots . . . had NO record of the Birth of . . .Richard BOWE(s) born . . . 1800 +/- 10 years . . . first in Laoise .. then ALL Ireland
___________________________________________________________________________________________
Proof of Marriage . . . 1819 . . Durrow . . . (see below) . . . BUT . . . unfortunately . . . no further info. on Parents of the pair.

Best I could do . . .
Cheers . . . Eamonn

Jill:
Eamonn has done a lot of research for you. I did check Roots Ireland for the baptismal records for John and Timothy but found no record. However, I did locate an 1822 record for a son name James.See below. The parish register index shows a 2 + year gap in baptismal records from January 1820-Mary 1822. and then another gap from February 1827-May 1832 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0968 Possibly John was born/baptized during the first gap period.

Eamonn and Rog...you're the best.
Thanks so much for your time and efforts. Very much appreciated. I feel grateful that I have the correct area in Ireland. Can't wait to visit! I'm not surprised that there is no later information on the Richard Bowes and Mary Downey family as they seem to all have migrated to Canada in the 1830's.
Best,
Jill
