Looking for information for Sarah Brennan who married John King.  Family information indicates that they were both born around 1800.  However, the information listed also indicates they were born in Chatel Clough which I cannot seem to locate.  My best guess it really is Chapel Clough and that possibly this ties to Clough in County Laois and the parish Aghaboe.  They had 5 children all born in Ireland.

William King b. abt. 1825 in Chatel Clough
Margaret King b. 1834, Chatel Clough, Ireland
Thomas King b. abt 1833 Chatel Clough, Ireland
John King b. abt.1842 Chatel Clough, Ireland
Mary King b. abt.1843 Chatel Clough, Ireland

Immigrated to US around 1850 and settled in Illinois area.

Thank you,

Kim

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!!

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a church marriage record nor did I locate any baptismal records for children of John and Sarah. Not sure of their religious denomination but the RC records for Aghaboe go back to 1799 which would rule out that parish in Laois as the location for your family of they were RC. Also, I do not see a Clough in Aghaboe civil parish.

I looked at all the townlands in Ireland which start with CHA and did not see any good leads for Chatel Clough.

    Have you tested your DNA?

  • Roger,

They are RC.  Myself and my mom have both done the ancestry DNA.  Below was the information it had related to the Ireland/Scotland which was 80% for my mother. Below were the regions identified:

    Munster, Ireland

The more specific places within this region where your family was likely from.

    North Kerry & North Cork

    Dingle Peninsula

    North Central Clare

    East Dingle Peninsula

    North Munster

  • Kim, Sarah Mary (Sally) Brennan showed up on my Thrulines recently as a sister to Ellen Brennan b. 1793. Locations are becoming muddled as we had Westmeath as the Brennan location, now we have Co Laois coming in.

Ellen followed her husband to Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia, with their children. He had his brother, John, had been transported to Australia (that means he was a convict) - no doubt trying to feed his family of  6 children - on 9 March 1826 in Trim, Peter and John were sentenced to transportation for life for house-breaking – their first offence. After he received his Ticket of Leave he applied for the Convict Family Reunion Scheme, Ellen and the family joined him on July 1838.

There are many descendants in the Mudgee NSW area. I am descended from PMR and EB's daughter, Mary, who had separately been transported for stealing handkerchiefs in 1836. She arrived in Port Jackson, aged in 1837, aged 23. Mary made her way to Victoria and married an ex-Convict from England - John Lawford.

    Best wishes, Raine (Victoria, Australia)
