I have posted about my great grandmother before and have a good deal of information.  We feel as though the birth information that we have with Bridget being born in Malahide, Dublin, Ireland is the correct information but we can never be sure with Bridget.  The birthdate on this record is the same that she eventually gave to the USA goverment when becoming a citizen years after she arrived in 1901.  I believe she became a citizen in 1947.  Bridget and Richard Lutterell, her Irish husband, (sp varies) got married in St Andrew's RC Church in 1887.  Richard died in 1901 in S. Dublin.  On her marriage record Bridget lists her father as Patrick and mother as Catherine (no maiden name). I believe she listed them as both dead at the time of the marriage.  I can find nothing on Bridget's family, did she have any brothers or sisters?  We do know about her children.  She placed her children in Dundalk after her husband died when she went to America.  They were apart from the mother from 1901-1906-why all the way to Dundalk from Dublin?  I wonder if Briget may have had family there or been an orphan herself.  I am willing to hire someone one to help me with this family.  One other item...when she arrived in America she said that she was going to meet a cousin-last name Jackson. Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.  Judy Link Salvatore

  • Hi Judy, think it may have been me you were in touch with previously, I volunteer in Louth but think I looked into it initially as it was either Balrothery or Swords or nearby which is were I was born. Delay as I do not normally look at Dublin queries, often nobody does as we do not have a regular volunteer in Dublin and local information is difficulty as the city has changed at enormous rate.

On the off chance there was a Jackson in the area I checked the civil marriage records for Balrothery between 1864 and 1918 and got one marriage hit, it was a widow called Jackson maiden name Knight marrying a bank clerk, Porter, living in Drogheda, the marriage was in Skerries in 1905, what is interesting here is the grooms father is listed as a Clerk in Holy Orders (was there an issue of children being minded by a religious group in Dundalk) also more interesting was the father of the bride is listed as a Gentleman Farmer and Mill Owner, always wanted to a gentleman of some description me. This indicates to me there was some money behind this lady and if Jackson is the former husbands name the marriage and death certificate should be available on Irish Genealogy a free site. The first marriage did not come up in my search but may be elsewhere on the site which is free. https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

We do not recommend genealogists but the National Library publishes a list of companies and individuals who carry out work and the link is here https://www.nli.ie/en/commission-research.aspx

Click on here on the page and a pdf list downloads. It would be normal for the selected person to scope out your query and agree a price before you commit.

There is an interesting site for the Jackson name which is very good even if you are not  interested in the actual name here http://www.thesilverbowl.com/familytree/JACKSON-FAMILY-TREES-INDEX.html

Happy Hunting and feel free to ask some more if you wish,

  • Pat, I am not great at knowing about responses to my postings on this site.  I just happened to check the Dublin site on this site and saw responses.  Do they alert you to responses to postings via email?  Thank you for your reply and for the references.

Bridge continues to be a challenge.  We hope to visit Ireland in the coming year.  Hope we can make some headway before we schedule a visit.  Judy

  • Hi Judy, normally we get an email of a reply, some replies come years later, the email updates are every 24 hours and not instant.

If you are coming fell free to inquire about travel; hotels etc or places to visit, did I suggest also you could try the Dublin Library in Pearse street or the Swords Library.
