Looking for information on Bridget Tierney from Ballentemple?? County Clare who immigrated to New Zealand on teh S.S. Glenmark in 1869. Bridget was born 25 September 1850 and married Patrick Ryan in Christchurch on 8th May 1878.

I have no information for heror her family  in Ireland other than what I can glean from a related Family Tree.

They eventually settled on a farm located at a place called  Wrights Bush in Southland, New Zealand.  They had seven children together.  Their 5th child (and 3rd son) John Andrew Ryan was my grandfather.  Any information on the Tierney family would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Chris,

Do you have a copy of the marriage of Bridget Tierney and her death record. They should show the names of her parents.

The address Ballentemple not found in Co. Clare - Griffith's Valuations c1850.

There is a parish named Ballentemple in South County Tipperary. It is in the general are of Cashel.

The surname "Ryan" is common in that County.

  • Thank you McCoy.

Most appreciated, I have ordered a copy of Bridget's (Bridgit's ???)  Marriage Certificate. That should provide a little more information to explore,  such as the names of her parents (and Patricks also).

I am mystified by the reference to Ballentemple in connection with County Clare (taken from an associated Family Tree showing NZ family descendents). Probably just not accurately recorded. It is amazing the loss of connection and information across just 3 NZ generations (or about 120 years) since they emigrated to NZ.

I attempted to identify a  Ballentemple (Ballintemple)  in that County without any success.

    The search continues.

    Thank you again.

    Chris
