Hi Carol I will try and help you with your enquiry. I live in Sligo about 5 miles from Ballisodare. I can see James and Margaret on the Census for 1901 living at Belladrehid (a townland about half a mile from Ballisodare). It seems to me that James' mother's name is McDonagh and you have probably seen McDonagh families in Kilmacowen if you search for Brown/McDonagh marriages on www.irishgenealogy.ie? I actually have Brownes and McDonaghs in my own family tree. You will see this on Ancestry - Kelly/McCafferty - you can message me on that platform if you wish. I understand that there are Brown families still living in Ballisodare and can I suggest that you consider writing a letter (on line) to the editor of the local newspaper, the Sligo Champion, at https://www.facebook.com/TheSligoChampion or https://www.independent.ie/regionals/sligochampion/. The paper edition is widely read and it may result in a response from a member of the Brown family. Hope that helped. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with Kind regards Tom

Hello Carol. My great-great grandfather is/was James Brown from Kilmacowen, Sligo, Ireland. He died in Belladrihid, Sligo County. I have been trying to find out his wife's name. Maybe we have a connection?

Hi Rosie
I notice that you posted details of an ancestor James Brown with a grant of administration in 1918 to Winifred Brown.
If this is the James Brown you are interested in tnen he was married to Winifred McDonagh from the Riverstown area and Winifred died in 1924.
I have a reasonable amount of information on this family.
If you are interested feel free to email me on tom_kelly@outlook.com and I will share this with you.
Kind regards
Tom
