My great-grandmother Sarah Burke and her parents/family lived in Galway City until the mid-1860s, on Middle St., William St. and Lower Abbeygate St. Her father John Burke  ran a pub and brewery. Her brother Stephen Burke married a Barrett in Moycullen. I am traveling to Ireland next month. I would love to connect with anyone who knows the history of that area and family.

  • Hello Waterlilly-

No, I am not aware if the names of anyone who may have worked with or for John Burke in Galway City. What did a brewer's agent do? I believe that John Burke only brewed beer for his own pub, a small operation. Have you found your Michael Kelly in the valuation records? Where was he located?

    Thank you for your reply.

  • Hi, Thank you for responding so prompt.I really don't know very much about my GGGrandfather only that he was a brewers agent and i don't even know what that was .I have baptisms for all of his children and a marriage certificate for his oldest son Patrick who was married in Taum. On the certificate it states Michael as a brewers agent and his wife as Catherine O'Neill. I know in 1835 he was living in a place called Clonfean parish of Dunmore but that is all i know .I don't know where he was born what year he was born or married.I have tried everything but can't find him or his wife anywhere as i don't have dates of birth or marriage for them.
