Does anyone have knowledge of a Canavan/Canovan/Canavin family in Roscommon? My ggg aunt Eleanor Margaret Barrett, born ca. 1864, married a Steve Canavan, and they emigrated to Chicago (according to family lore) and my grandmother went to live with them when she had to leave Ireland as an orphan ca. 1904.

Appreciate any info anyone might have.

Thanks!

  • Thank you, Patricia!

I did not know that Peter Drury remarried and had more children. Very interesting!

I always heard he had died in London when my grandmother was about 7 and after the last of her grandparents died she was orphaned and had to emigrate to stay with an aunt, Eleanor Barrett Canavan, in Chicago.

I will click on the links you attached.

    Cheers!

  • Peter Drury died in 1904:

Your grandmother would have been 11 or 12 at that time.

When your grandmother went to Chicago, did she continue to live there? When did she get married? To whom and where? Thanks.
