My Donelan ancestors (great great grandfather Edward Donelan and his siblings) were clustered in Carrowreagh townland in Griffiths Valuation (about 1855). Recently I found that the 1833 tithe applotment records for Dunmore civil parish that contains Carrowreagh were misfiled in the National Archives under County Kilkenny. However only one tenant is listed there, an Edward Kelly (compared with about 25 households in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation).
How should I interpret this? Was this Edward Kelly a middleman between the landlord Bodkin and the tenants, or, was he in fact the only tenant at the time and the townland was used for grazing (implying the tenants listed in Griffiths in 1855 all moved in some time after 1833)?
I would appreciate any opinions.
Thank you
