Researching Casey family from Glanmire.  I have found a Cornelius Casey who married Catherine Cronin February 10, 1831 in Glanmire, Cork & Ross.  They had five children, one being my greatgrand father, Cornelius (1841-1932),, who went to New Zealand about 1867 and married Ellen Keohane there in 1872. Ellen was born in Caheragh, Co Cork in 1845-1915.  They had 12 children, one being my grandfather, Francis Denis (1881-1962).  I have no problem with my NZ research but would like to be able to find out more about Cornelius' siblings (making contact with any of their descendants would be great).  I would like to be able to find out more informaion about this family going back as far as possible.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks

I searched the subscription site FindMyPast and found four of the five baptismal records: Jeremiah 1833 Honora 1835 Patrick 1836 Cornelius. Not sure who I'm missing.

I searched for a marriage in Glanmire for Hanora, Jeremiah and Patrick and did not find a record.

I looked at the 1901 census for the Rathcooney are and there were very few Caseys and none matching the names and ages of your ancestors.

Possibly one or more never married and died before 1901 but there would be too many Casey death records to go thru

From what I can see, they likely emigrated. I can check the fifth sibling if you give me the name and year of birth.

  • Roger,  a BIG thank you for your info.  I think the other sibling may be Catherine.  I also looked in the 1901 census and could not find anything that  I could tie in with the family.  Other than Cornelius no other immigrated to NZ but perhaps I should look in ships records to the USA -  Ellis Island.

I would also like to be able to research as far back as I can.

I got spoiled with doing the NZ portion of the research as their records are fairly easy to research.  I was born and raised in NZ but reside in Canada at present.

    Thanks again,  Marie

  • Kia Ora Adele,

Thank you for replying to my post.  I have only recently discovered my Casey family came from Glanmire through a DNA match.  My great grandfather, Cornelius was born in 1841.  His father was Cornelius married to Catherine Cronin.  I have found four siblings - Jeremiah, Honora, Patrick, and Catherine.  Would be interested in hearing from you.  I am not on any chat format.  But can be contacted by email at mariecasey@shaw.ca

Looking forward to hearing from you.      Marie
