  • Can you give us some dates please? Which century are we looking at? I have searched the records on rootsireland but do not see the couple. Possibly that's because there are no records for the era you are interested in.

  • This previous thread appears to relate to this same family.

So that tells us the parents probably married in 1827 or earlier.  Their children were baptised in the Church of Ireland so possibly they married in a COI church too.  Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church, so that may not be the same church as the children were later baptised in, as that would normally be the husband’s church.

Clones Church of Ireland has baptism, marriage & burial records starting in 1682. They are on the rootsireland site but there’s no sign of John & Susanna’s marriage. So they presumably married in a different denomination or a different church. The relevant records for their marriage don't appear to be on-line, and they might be lost. (A lot of Church of Ireland parish records were burned in the 1922 fire).

Other churches in the Clones parish area are: Aghadrumsee (records start 1829), Clogh (records from 1811). Both these are Church of Ireland. There are 3 Presbyterian churches: Clones (records from 1856), Smithborough (1868) & Stonebridge (1819) and the RC marriages start in 1821. Only the RC records are on line so far as I can see, on the nli site. For the others you would need to go to PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast where they have copies of them all. They are on microfilm and a personal visit is required to view them. If the marriage isn't in any of the churches in Clones parish then you would need to widen the search to adjacent parishes. It might take some time to work through them all.
