I am still unable to find where my Great Grandmother Catherine Redmond was born. However I found her death a couple of years ago in Alderney The Channel Isles. She died 31st December 1869 aged 40yrs & 3 months.

Her marriage 11th Feb. 1849 in Dublin states she was underage. Her father is said to have been a John Redmond a Thatcher.

If the death age is correct she was born 1829 possibly around Sept. If anyone has any information which may lead to her family I would be very pleased.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

www.irishgenealogy.ie  has Dublin city church records. I searched from 1825-1835 and located the two records below as possible leads.

  • Thank you very much for searching for me Roger. I go away tomorrow but on my return will take a look and see if I have this information.

Can you tell me if it is common for the age of the child to be given at Baptism. Although not conclusive both marriage and death indicate she was born before 1830. Catherine should have been on the 1861 census but I have been told this was destroyed by water.

    Thanks you for your time

Usually baptisms occurred within a week of birth.

  • Sorry for not replying before.

I have considered this info and will keep it on file.Catherines marriage states under age and her death  40 years and 3 mths in 1869. The bapt. you mention would mean she was 15 when married  35 when she died. Also no mention of her fathers occupation which was a thatcher so I think this may well be another Catherine. I also have no evidence that Catherine was born in Dublin although she married there.

    Thanks for looking

  • Sorry  Catherine would have been 16 at marriage,

    Another couple of questions

Would there have been Thatch in Dublin 1840's?

26 Clanbrassil Street was the address where Catherine was living at the time of her marriage. Do you know if the property that is there now is the same as in 1849? I visited some years ago but could not find when the building was built or if the house road numbers have been changed.

    Thanks
