  • Hi Clare

I'm not a Cole but a volunteer on the site.

There are 48 Cole baptisms 1783-1900 & 19 Cole marriages 1779 to 1896 from St Paul's Arran Quay on www.rootsireland.ie/ (subscription site)

If you have specific Coles you'd like searched for in the above just post the details

  • Thank you Col very much, I would appreciate a search if you could, as this ancestor is my brick wall.

My ancestor is Thomas Cole, baptised in 1835.
He married Anne Gregan 11 Jan 1858. All in St Pauls.

Thomas parents are listed as Christopher Cole and Catherine...

Through other searches, I have found 3 couples,
    Christopher and Catherine Walker
    Christopher and Catherine Smythe
    Christopher and Catherine Sullivan

The Coles lived in Bow Street, Constitution Hill area around this time.

There is a record of Christopher and Cath Walker (st Catherine's) marrying in 1825 which I have been leaning towards being his parents but cant confirm it....

There is a baptism for a Christopher Cole baptised around 1805 which I am also leaning towards as his father, but again no proof.

A fresh pair of eyes to look at things might help lol.
    Kindest regards
    Clare

  • Sorry Clare; I didn't do well at all I'm afraid!

rootsireland doesn't have any baptism for Thomas with father Christopher in any county 1835 + - 10 years!

The marriage record is there but no mother's name of course.

Most disappointingly, the 1841 & 1851 censuses don't have them either - no Coles in any county!

I also tried www.irishgenealogy.ie which is good for Dublin records but no luck.

As they were R C I assume you've tried the R C registers at the National Library - free online? Microfilm 08828/05 has St Paul's Arran Quay Baptisms 1829 to 56 (registers.nli.ie/)

The Irish phone book www.118.ie/ (People Search) has 175 Coles in Dublin. Perhaps you could drop a line to the Thomases, Christophers and Catherines in the hope that one of them is connected.
