I am researching my husband's family and his great-grandfather Andrew (or Henry) Perry married Julia (or Judith) Connolly from Co Galway in Glasgow in 1870. The interesting thing is that Andrew's father was a coast guard from Cornwall who was stationed in Roundstone and Bayleek coast guard stations from 1851 to 1869. Andrew was born in Falmouth in 1845 and two of his siblings born and baptised (C of I) in Roundstone (Richard Bolton Perry 15 Apr 1852) and Clifden (Harriet Anne Perry 20 Aug 1854).

Andrew's father, Thomas Perry, is on the Griffiths Valuation living in Aillebrack in 1855. He retired from the coastguard service and returned to Falmouth in 1869.

It is possible that Andrew met Julia in Galway so I am trying to find more information about Julia's family. It seems that Connolly and McDonagh are very common names in this part of Galway, but here goes...

From Andrew and Julia's marriage in Glasgow:

Marriage: 3 Jan 1870 at St Andrew's RC Church, Great Clyde St, Glasgow.  Andrew Perry (signed), Shipbuilder's labourer (bachelor) age 24, father Thomas Perry Coastguard Pensioner, mother Harriet Perry nee Hoskin. Judith Connolly (X her mark) Hair factory worker, (spinster) age 23. (B. abt 1847) Father Vall Connolly, farmer (deceased) mother Mary Connolly nee McDonagh.

From 1871 Census of Scotland : Juda Perrie, age 28, born Ireland, Andrew Perrie, age 29, born England.(ages inconsistent on census records).

From 1881 Census of Scotland: Julia Perry, age 30, born Galway, Andrew Perry, age 34.

From Julia's death certificate: 7 Apr 1896, (informant was her son, Andrew died 1886) Father Vall Connolly (deceased) mother Mary Connolly (nee McDonagh).

Julia's mother, Mary was also living with them in Glasgow. Her death cert shows: 9 Dec 1975 Mary Connolly, widow of John Connolly, farmer, age 56. (b. abt 1819) Father Thomas McDonald, farmer, deceased, mother Julia McDonald, no maiden name, deceased. The informant was Andrew Perry, son in law.

So, to confuse things more, Julia's parent's names could be Vall Connolly and Mary McDonagh (more likely as from marriage certificate as Julia would have provided the information) or John Connolly and Mary McDonald. Her parent would have been born around 1815-1825.

If there is any information to be found I would really appreciate it. I am visiting Galway in July 2020 (from Australia) for my family history tour!
