My 3 x Great Grandfather was convicted for larceny at the Limerick Assizes in July 1849 and transported to WA (Australia) via the 'Phoebe Dunbar' in 1853.  His convict biography suggests he was married with one child.  Having searched the nli, I believe he was married to Johanna HANNAGAN in the parish of Knocklong and Glenbrohane in 1846.  John petitioned to have his wife join him in WA in December 1854.  She allegedly arrived via the 'Dolphin' in November 1857.

Despite having a wealth of family history information for the pair in Western Australia, I have very little related to the family in Ireland.  From death certificates, I have learnt that they were both born in Limerick with John's parents being William STEWARD and Helen/ Ellen O'DWYER (or variations of)  and Johanna's parents were James HANNAGAN (or variation of) and Ellen CONDON.

I am currently part of a statewide project to research and provide data for all of the nearly 10,000 men who were transported as convicts to Western Australia.  Naturally, I have chosen the 'Phoebe Dunbar' as one of my ships to research and would be more than happy to share details of other 'Phoebe Dunbar' convicts with ancestral members of the IrelandXO group.

So happy I stumbled across your site!  Thankyou.
