1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Arran_Quay/Ston…; Note daughter Margaret has her name in Gaelic so she likely was involved with the Nationalist movement to some degree.
1931 death record for Catherine Cooney. Note Nicholas was back in Ireland.

Hi Roger, Thankyou for this extra information, I was of the belief that Nicholas stayed in the USA..Nicholas applied for US citizenship on the 19th June 1912 and John James applied for US citizenship in February 1921. I wonder if Nicholas stayed in Ireland after his mother died in 1931, because he was living at the same address as his mother. He would have been 59 years old when his mother died, that seems a bit old to go back to the USA. I wonder if Matthew went back to Ireland as well????? Maybe I've been searching in the wrong country.
Thanks so much for your help
Cheers

I did not see a post-1831 Nicholas Cooney death record that would fit the age of your Nicholas.

Hi Roger, Do you have any information on the 2 other boys of Catherine Cooney, they were Frederick and Charles. Its hard to check up because the 1926 Census wont be released until 2027 and all the previous Census have been destroyed back to1911. I was told that in some cultures a family home is left to the eldest son, is that the same in Ireland back in 1931 when Catherine died and Nicholas was in Ireland. I was going to check to see if he had children living with him.Are school records available to the public, they arent in Australia.I'm just trying to find an "alive" descendant of Matthew patrick cooney but I will be happy with any member of the Cooney family. Thanks

I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and located a possible death record for Charles in 1925. This Charles was a bachelor. I also found a 1933 death record for a Frederick Cooney who was married and a foreman at the Guinness factory. Not sure if either record is for your relatives but they are leads.

Yes, Roger they are the other children of Catherine Cooney, her 3 sons did not marry Matthew, Nicholas & now Charles all remained batchelors, so we know Frederick married and his wife was Christine. I will look at the Guinness records and see if they give me any more information. It might give me information on his children. Are there people who are on IrelandXO who are currently alive???? or is it only for history? Thanks Shelley

Hi Riger, The Guinness records show Frederick started work there in 1903 ,only aged 14 years & he worked there for 30 years as a cooper, it only gives his wifes name as Christina., No address or children Shelley

Good news! One of our volunteers, Shane wilson< is an expert in finding hard to find records. Shane located the Frederick Cooney marriage record. His surname of Cooney was mistranscribed as Convey. He married Christina Dunne in 1915. I looked again for children and did not see any records.
