    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The Bandon RC records start in 1794  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0017  which is too late for Cornelius. The earliest baptismal record I can locate for a Powell in Bandon is around 1810. www.irishgenealogy.ie has the church records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross including Bandon.

I assume Cornelius was single when he left Ireland?

We have an XO Chronicles site  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…;  where you can post stories of ancestors who left Ireland.

  • Roger,

Thanks for your reply, I can also provide the following: -

    1841 Census (Living in Bristol)

Cornelius Powell, Aged 50, b. 1791, Bandon, Ireland

Ann Powell, Aged 45, b. 1796, St Kitts!

Elizabeth Powell, Aged 25, b. 1816, Bandon, Ireland

    Sarah Powell, Aged 28, b. 1825, Bristol??

David Powell, Aged 13, b.1828, Bandon, Ireland

Sarah Powell, Aged 8, b.1833, Bristol

    James Powell, Aged 5, b. 1836, Bristol

Cornelius and family also crop up in the Lancashire Vagrant Passes and travelled to Ireland from Liverpool on 8th February 1828. Seems strange how they are not appearing in any Irish censuses. Also interesting to see that his wife Ann was born in St Kitts, but no sign of any marriage records anywhere either.

    Regards,

    Paul

The 19th century censuses were destroyed and a few fragments remain from 1821 and 1831 but no records for Cork.
