    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The records for Kilkeevin (Castlerea) parish go back to 1804 but when I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland, for Andrew Cruise marriages in Co. Roscommon, only one came up in a different parish and the wife's name was Eleanor Dowd. When did the marriage occur?

  • The de Crúis / Cruise presence in Ireland dates back to the Anglo-Normans. Spelling variations may include Cross / Cruce  / Cruice  / Crusue / Cruse. (For what it's worth, you are in good company ... TOM CRUISE Irish Ancestry).

    CARTY & CRUISE OF 'CLOONDAHARA'

The Cruise-Carty union would suggest that Andrew Cruise & Mary Carty both came from the townland of Cloondacarra (south of Castlerea) where both Carty and Cruise were small farmers in 1832 [TA].

If you have dates and further details on their kin, I will be able to confirm/ disprove and give you more background on the various Cruise families in Kilkeevin.

  • Thankyou Roger, Rua for your help, I'm really sorry for my very late reply! I recently had a DNA test which has DNA'd me to Cruises from Roscommon. My Mother was a Cruise, my Grandad was full Irish, born here in Shropshire but his parents were Irish, William Cruise and Mary McCormick. William had brothers James his twin, Henry, George and Peter. Peter was married to Ann Faugheny. Andrew Cruise of Ballanlough, Roscommon was their Father. William helped build St Patrick's church in Wellington Shropshire. My Grandad used to say his Dad was the strongest Man in Ireland! Don't know how true that is!
