Looking to add to information on Thomas Cullivan (c1831- 5th June 1896) m Mary Ann Reilly(c1827-8 Oct 1892). Have their death certificates. Are there any newspaper articles for their death?

Cannot locate their Marriage?

From memory of facts told to me was the Bishop of Cavan was an uncle or Cousin to MaryAnn or Thomas? - Bernard?

Children: Eliza(Elizabeth), MaryAnn, Kate, Annie, Susan, Ellen(1868),  (1870) Margaret,(1864, James, George,  Bernard, Thomas? Some chidren married into Cusick and Hyland families.

Eliza, MaryAnn, Kate left for Australia, Bernard and another son not sure which went to USA.

Have a lot of information on the Australian decendants but particularly looking for any more on Irish side for both Cullivan/Colvin or Reilly. (spelling for both surnames does vary. )

  • Hi Geraldine,

I had a look at the newspapers and Thomas's obituary is not mentioned, though sympathy may be referred to in various reports from societies etc, where they offer sympathy to a member of their family on the death of their family member without mentioning his name, so it takes a lot of reading. I found my great grandmother's death in 1930 that way, in the Meath Chronicle, not in the Anglo-Celt as I would have imagined.  Do keep looking for grave records as volunteers record and put them online, some burial records have also come to light recently and hopefully more will, this may lead you to more family.

The church records for Lavey cover births and marriages for the years from 1867 - 1899, so that is why you won't find the marraige, unless they were married elsewhere.  There is only one Bishop names Bernard in the Kilmore Diocese and he was Bernard Finegan a short video of his life can be found here https://www.facebook.com/CavanLibrary/videos/625414892025294.

I hope this gives you other avenues to look at.

    Regards Carmel
