Hi, My inquiry is actually about Annascaul but I could not find a mesage board for that area. My gr grandfather Patrick Curran was born in Annascaul in 1834. The baptisim record I have says that he was baptized in March 1834 in Dromvalley. His parents were Patrick Curran and Mary Connor. His father Patrick was the oldest of nine children of John Curran. (some records are Currane or Curren). I will be in Dingle in a week and a half and wondering if anyone has any knowledge of Currans still in that area or can give me an idea on how to find Dromvalley. I have been to the area before, but did not have the information that I have now and traveling with a group it is sometimes hard to get out exploring on my own. We always stop at the South Pole Inn and someone once told me that Dromvalley was behind there and over the hill. I have of course been to Curran's Pub, but when I was there it was too crowded and loud to talk to anyone, but I will be staying right up the street from there and intend to visit again when it's a bit quieter. My grandfather was also a James Curran. My gr grandfather came here to the states in about 1860 along with a brother & sister and settled in Massachusetts. They were later joined by my gr gr grandfather who lived to be 105. Any information or insight would be greatly appreciated.
My Best,
Diane Curran Richard

Diane:
First of all, have a great trip.
The townland is Dromavally and there are three with that spelling in Co. Kerry. Your Dromavally is in Ballinvoher civil parish. As an aside, our parish pages are set up based on civil parishes rather than RC parishes although there are some exceptions.
Your Dromavally would be north of the village of Annascaul https://www.townlands.ie/kerry/corkaguiny/baile-na-bhothair/ballinvoher…; It is a very large townland almost 900 acres.

Diney, a good contact in Annascaul is Noel Spillane mob 0872184757. He is correspondent for local News Notes. Also see Facebook https://www.facebook.com/annascauladventures. I believe the townland your looking for is nearer to Inch.

Thank you Roger and Jim. Here's an article I found in the 1889 Boston Globe about my 2nd gr grandfather. Very intresting and informative article. Funny thing is, I lived and went to high school in Weymouth and never knew anything about my Curran ancestors settling and living there. Getting excited about my trip, it's been too long. I had a flight for March 13, 2020 and that was cancelled at the eleventh hour, so it will be great to be back. My paternal grandmother's family is from the Beara and Kenmare so I always get down and spend some time there.
My Best,
Diney

Hi Diane!
If you get a chance maybe after your return from Ireland, could you add an Ancestor Chronicle to our XO Chronicles site?
Thanks!

Hi Diane,
I have details of someone who thinks they may have found grave markers for your ancestors. Can you give me an email on dwhyte@irelandxo.com and I'll pass them on.
Thanks
Dave
