I am trying to track down the Daly family in Kerry.  My dad, Brendan Daly was born in Kerry in November 1933. His father was a farmer and called John Daly. Brendan was one of 9 children. He had two brothers called Dennis (Denny) and Patrick.  All three brothers went to live in England. Brendan went to London, Patrick to Newark and Dennis to Cumbria.

I don't have any more details unfortunately, hopefully someone can help advise.

We only have access online to civil birth records up to 1920 but marriages to 1945. Do you have the mothers name?

  • Hi Roger

One of my relatives thinks that the moter's surname was Kelly. She thinks that the place in Kerry was Ballyduff.  I will still look for the baptism certificate.

The baptismal record may help. I looked at all John Daly marriages from 1915-1935 in Co. Kerry and none of the marriages had a bride who was a Kelly.

  • Hi Roger

Thanks so much for checking. I haven't found the baptism certificate yet, but will keep looking. I think Kelly must be wrong. I know my dad was born in Kerry on 20 November 1933 and his name was Brendan Daly. His father was John Daly. I know my dad was one of 9 children. One relative thinks they came from Ballyduff.  Hope to get some more info soon and will post here.

    In the meantime, thank you!

  • Hello Roger

I have finally found my dad's certificate plus some other information.

My dad's birth was never registered. I found a letter from the Southern Health Board (Killarney) dated 1998. The registrar who wrote to my dad did find a baptismal certificate. I have the copy of that. It states that my dad's father was John Daly and his wife was Margaret Donnelly. The registrar's letter states that my dad was born on 20 November 1932 at Ladies Walk, Ballyduff, County Kerry, Ireland.

The baptismal certificate states that my dad Brendan Daly was born in the Parish of Causeway on the above date. His baptism is listed as taking place at St John the Baptist church, Causeway.  His parents are listed as John Daly of Dromartin and Margaret Donnelly of Ballyduff. Sponsors are John Kelly and Ann Healy.

I have a little more detail on one of my dad's brothers. He is  Denny (Danny) Martin Daly, born 11 November 1922 and died on 28 September 2013.

There is another relative called James Daly, born in 1852 Lourdesville, Kildare and who died on 24 October 1995.  I think the date of birth must be wrong. Looking at his picture I think he was also a brother of my dad. I have no more info on him.

I hope this information helps.  Many thanks.

I located the marriage record in 1913 on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie   see fourth record  The record shows the names of the fathers of the bride and groom.

      https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…

Brendan had to be one of the younger children.

We only have access to civil birth records thru 1920 and I located the three oldest children.

see fifth record for John    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

    last record for Bridget   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

    seventh record for Bartholomew  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…
