My 3rd Great Grandfather was John Edward Dancey, b 1803 (either in Co Monaghan or Co Cavan) . He was married to a lady named Margaret (possibly Caffrey was her surname). They had a number of children, Edward James, James, Matty, Susan, and Samuel Stanley . Samuel Stanley and I think James emigrated to Canada at some point before 1869 when he married his wife in Canada. I do believe my family were ag labourers or they owned a farm. I am trying to find any and all information with records if there are any.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located an August 11 1829 marriage record between John Dancey and Margaret Caffrey. The marriage took place in the Bailieborough Church of Ireland parish in Co.Cavan. I also located four baptismal records for children of John Dancey and his wife Margaret in the same church: Edward 1830 Matty 1833 Susan 1835 Samuel 1839. I did not locate a record for James.

The family lived in Rakeevan townland in Bailieborough civil parish.

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Bailieborough parish did not show a John Dancery in Rakeevan but an Edward Dancey. Same person?

I located an 1884 Edward Dancey death record. He was 57 and married to Margaret. https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1884/06336/4817177.pdf

I think this must be the son since John Edward would have been in his 70s.

There are very many Dancey people associated with Bailieboro, County Cavan , I could not find a John Edward , I think he may have gone under the name of Edward, I will keep checking.

  • Hi Lori,

I think we communicated before.  I don't think I can add anymore to Roger's response.
