Wanting any information on the the following people, Daniel Parke, James Parke and H Stephenson. James was my great great grandfather and Daniel was my great grandfather. He joined the army (64 Brigade) in 1879. He lists Tughboyne as his birth place and his cousin H Stephenson as his next of kin. According to his marriage certificate Daniel's father, James was listed as a carpenter. I wough appreciate any information on any of these people.

I assume your family was Church of Ireland and also that Daniel married outside Ireland?

I think the civil parish is Taughboyne on the eastern side of Co. Donegal The subscription site Roots Ireland indicates that they have Taughboyne C of I records back to 1820 but the only Parke record I could find with father James was an 1827 baptismal record for an Alexander Parke. The only C of I baptismal record for a Daniel Parke was an 1840 record in St. Johnston parish with a father John. I also did not find a good lead for a marriage record for James Parke.

Looks like your Daniel was baptized in another parish where records are not available on Roots Ireland. Some C of I parish records are only available locally or at the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin but without knowing the parish, there is no way find the record at this time. Also, many C of I parish reocrds were destroyed in the 1922 Public Record Office fire in Dublin.

Let us know if you have other information.

  • Thanks for your prompt replies and suggestions. He was Church of Ireland. I do have a copy of his marriage certificate dated 14 April 1882 in Enniskillen where he married Frances Deane. He lists his father as James Parke and a carpenter. Inrerestingly now I have the area of Taughboyne I was able to find a reference to a Petty Sessions Register where on 6 Feb 1879 the Reverand John W Lindsay assisted Daniel in taking a Thomas McGuire of St Johnson to court for neglecting Daniel who was indentured to him as a carpenter apprentice. John Mcguire was ordered to pay 4 pounds and the indenture cancelled.

I will be in contact with the Donegal history people also.

    Cheers
