Looking for information, descendants, records of Jeremiah D'Arcy from Ballyroe Lower in 1850-1860's. Appears this family was there earlier in the tithe applotment books as well.. Daughter Ellen may be my Great Grandmother. GGrandmother's name is Ellen, born about 1858,  but not sure if this is her father. Mother's name may be Catherine Hayden. Has an older sister Catherine born in 1851. Family story has it that her mother died very young, maybe in childbirth, and she was raised by an older sister. Ellen's children 's naming pattern followed the Irish pattern in that first daughter was named after father's mother and second Catherine, after her mother?  This story is born out by the fact that Jeremiah remarries and has another family.

Family history says that great great grandfather was a tailor. In different documents Jeremiah is listed as a farmer and a bootmaker. I know that family history can be wrong, or changed through the years. Any connection between a tailor and a bootmaker?

Any help, connections, suggestions, ideas?

Thank you

Janet

  • My O'Regan ancestors were Barrel Makers from Ballyroe Lower in the time frame you noted. While i have not found a family connection i would be interested in any information you find about the Ballyroe Lower area. there is a good Facebook site "Kilfinane Photographs" you may want to look at if you have access to Facebook.
