Hello, I have some information on my Dee ancestry around the River Suir at the bottom of a mountain

terrain. John Dee had 5--6 children who lived in that area. My ancestor Nicholas Dee emigrated to Canada in about 1820

and married in Hampton, NB, Canada.I believe his siblings lived as tenants with a landlord and they were Catholic.

The names of his siblings were, Richard, Maurice, Ned, and Margaret, and possibly Catherine. If anyone has any information I would appreciate a contact.

Many thanks to this group!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC baptismal records for Stradbally RC parish start in November 1806   https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1093  The subscription site Roots Ireland actually has Stradbally baptismal records back to 1797. I searched Roots Ireland for baptismal records where the father was John Dee in Stradbally and the earliest record was 1809.which would be too late for Nicholas if he emigrated in 1820. I did not see any records for Ned/Edward, Richard, Maurice, or Catherine. I did find a Margaret in 1813 which is below but no way of knowing if there is a connection to your family. I assume you do not have the mothers name?

You can add Nicholas' story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection   https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Thank-you Roger,

No I don,t have the mothers name, however, I suspect this Margaret may be a connection.

County is correct as well as fathers name.I wonder if her middle name was Anne?

If I am right then how do I find connections to Margarets family and ancestors?

  • Barbara:

Generally from my experience, children did not have middle names in the first half of the 19th century.

I also did some additional searching on Roots Ireland and the John Dee and Honor Coffee shown in the Stradbally record had a number of other children younger than Margaret. The latest child was in 1828 so I think you can rule out the 1813 Margaret as being a child of the John Dee in your first note. This john and Honor may be connected but not directly.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Yes I have had DNA testing that shows I have ancesters in Co Donegal, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Cavan, Mayo, Waterford, Limmerick, Tipperary, and Monaghan.

So it is a  challenge to find specific people. My Dee ancestry is the most direct and clear path.

  • Hi Barbara, in researching my family tree the Dee side I have found graves of Dees in Kilrossanty n Fews n Stradbally graveyards.Although not all my relatives i tend to take pics of headstones and research later.Quite often with big families the forenames are quite similar John n michael n ned etc from family to family so you have to be careful.i dont think i can send images on this site but my email is jacqd2002@yahoo.co.uk if you want to contact me il send you what i have. Also note someone has put up a site where you can look at pics in stradbally graveyard

  • Hi Barbara, not sure of this thread is still active but I can help you with some details if you're still looking. I'm Dee from Kilrossanty, not the same Dee's but I know the family you are looking for. The correct parish is Kilrossanty, which is why you're not finding the information you're looking for I'd imagine. Look forward to hearing from you, Katie

  • Katie I;m sorry this is so late getting to you. I have been on the Green Room website.Nice to to hear from another Dee.

and his name was Nicholas. born 1797 and  emigrated to Canada in 1820--21.His father was John Southwell Dee born about 1775 and married about 1793.

I thought they may have been from co. Waterford, Kilgobnet parish. perhaps this is not so .I know the Dee.s originally were from Co. Clare. If you have any new info I would appreciate it.

    Thanks Barb from Canada
