Hi there,
My name is Steven and I have been trying to trace down the birth of my great-great-grandfather, Edward J. McKee. Unfortunately, I have been unabel to find his birth certificate or baptismal certificate. I am at a loss of what to do next. If anyone has any information on him, that would be fantastic! Here is the information on Edward J. McKee I have:
From his Illinois Death Certificate:
- Name: Edward J. McKee
- Father: James McKee
- Mother: Margaret Callaghan
- Birth Date: December 8, 1874
- Birth Location: County Roscommon, Ireland
- Death Date: April 27, 1955
- Death Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA
Although his death certificate says he was born in 1874, on various census he filled out, his birth year varies from 1862-1875.
If anyone has any information or any advice on how to find his birth certificate/baptismal record, I would really appreciiate it! Thanks!
Steven

Welecome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Civil registration of births started in 1864 in Ireland. I was unable to locate a marriage record for James McKee and Margaret Callaghan but I did locate civil birth records for three siblings to Edward.
The family lived in the Frenchpark area. The place name was shown as Cortoon or Corthoon which is not an offical townland but likely a local name. The RC records for Frenchpark do not start until 1865 so likely Edward was born 1863 or earlier which means there is no civil record or church record available. The other possibility is that he was born John or James and chose to use Edward in America.
I also looked at the 1901 census and I think I located in Cartron Beg townland http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Frenchpark/Cartronbeg/1667018/ This reocrd indicates she was married and born in Co. Mayo. I will do some additional research and get back to you.

Steven:
The 1911 census has Margaret as 74 and a widow http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Roscommon/Frenchpark/Cartronbeg/764861/ The ages in the 1911 census were more accurate than the 1901 census.
I did not find a death record for James or Margaret.
