I recently received the results of my "Y" DNA test. It was the big one - 700 markers - designed to follow the male line of my Moore family. The results were refined down to a small group of men who trace their ancestry back very far and most of them, including me, trace back to Kilkenny. As it happens, I have a great deal of knowledge about my Moore ancestors in North America who were first known in Massachussets in 1653. Unfortunately, we know nothing of where they came from in Great Britain. If anyone can point me in the direction of someone who knows Kilkenny history from 1000 CE to 1700 CE, particularly Kilkenny families, I would be most grateful. Some possible names of interest may be Richard de Clare (:Strongbow"), Kilkenny Castle and the O'Mordha family in the mid twelfth century.
