Am searching for any information about the family of my gg-grandfather Thomas Donahue (multiple spellings, see below) who left Ireland around 1850, possibly with 2 brothers. Based on the dates in the marriage record, Thomas was born in 1828 (he married Martha Hart in 1863, in Scott County, Virginia).

The marriage certificate shows the names of Thomas' parents as Timothy and Mary. On the marriage certificate, Thomas' last name is spelled as Donaha. Other records show multiple spellings including: Donihe, Donahoo, and Donihue.

Family lore indicates that the ship Thomas was on from Ireland got delayed in a storm at sea and was about 3 weeks late arriving into port. The lore also says that Thomas left his mother and a sister behind in Ireland.

I'm thinking it is possible that Thomas and Martha named some of their children after members of Thomas' family (father, mother, sister, etc). The names of Thomas' children include: Matilda, Thomas, Timothy, Louisa, John Daniel, Liza Virginia, Edmond, and Kyle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Co. Kerry church records and found a good lead for the baptismal record for Thomas in 1830. I did not find a marriage record for the parents but located baptismal records for a number of likely sisters. It appears some of the girls died in infancy because of the use of repeat names. None of the records showed a townland where the family lived and the Griffiths Valuation records for Dua did not show a Timothy Donoghue.
