I am looking for information that will help me to identify the parents of Francis Duffin born about 1816 and his wife Rose Walsh. He is listed on the Valuation of Tenements 1862 at Brae. Also listed there are Henry Duffin, Bridget Duffin and John Duffin who are possibly siblings of Francis or at least relatives.

Francis married Rose Walsh of Crookanully in February 1841.

Their son Charles was born in Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1843 before they returned to Skerry where 7 subsequent children born were. Francis went to London and later returned to Monkland, Scotland before immigrating to Missouri, USA to join Francis' brothers Michael and Felix.

  • Brae is in the RC parish of Glenravel. Their records only start in 1825. Tracing the baptism of someone born in 1816 and their parents marriage will be very difficult due to the lack of records for the period you need.

The tithe applotment records for 1825 list 3 Duffin farms in Brae - Margaret (likely a widow), Michael & Patrick. One of them may be Francis’ parent. All look to have died by 1862 when Griffiths was compiled. Possibly Francis’ parents death brought him back from Glasgow c 1843, to take over the family farm?
