My paternal grandmother had an anglisised surname of Dagnall, which I believe was originally Duignan and was born in Warrington Lancs in 1888. Her mother was Bridget nee Peyton from I believe Tibohine. The family came to England sometime in the 1870 s. Two of her siblings are shown as born in Ireland James and Maggie. I would be interested to find out more. Regards and Best wishes Mike Ashbrook.( m.ashbrook143@btinternet.com)

Here is the civil birth record for James (last record)

     https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

    Mary (eighth record)  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

    Margaret (fifth record)  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

They lived in the village of Tibohine.

One of our volunteers, Shane Wilson, found a 1901 English census for your family. Bridget was a widow and James and Margaret were living with her.

  • Hello,  May I ask, if there are Degnan's and Bruin's listed in Tibohine?  My Patrick Joseph Degnan married Catherine Bruin from Tibohine.

    Thank you,

When did they get married? There are Patrick Dignan/Degnan marriage records in Fairymount/Tibohine parish but none to a Catherine Bruin.

  • Hello Roger,

Patrick and Catherine got married in Cincinnati in the mid 1860's.  Catherine was from Tibohine.  There are records of Degnan's there too.

But have yet to find a birth for Patrick, 1841.  Catherine about 1845.

    Thank you so much.

  • Roger,

Thank you so very much.  Wish I could connect them to my Catherine and Patrick.  Census here in the US, puts their

Birth dates at 1841/42 for Patrick and 1845 or so for Catherine.  She was part of the Bruin family.Daughter of Michael Bruin

    and Bridget Byrnes.

Don't have anything for Patrick Joseph Degnan in any spelling.

Thank you so very much for your help!
