Hi,

Im helping a friend of mine thats coming here from the States in next month.

Her Grandmother was a Mary Dunican born in Pollagh in February, 1870 but had left Ireland before the 1901 census.

1901 Census House Record

She remembers her mother would write to her mum uncle Lawerence.

Was wondering if this would ring a bell with anyone? It would be nice if she could identify the house if it was still standing.

Or possible their maybe still Dunigans in the area?

Rgds Noel Kelly

Below are other details she sent me.

Edward Dunican (head of family) was married to Elizabeth Wynn

They had 12 children, only 6 living with them at time of 1901 Census. (These dates are written American-style, not Irish)

    Thomas baptized 7/9/1864

Mary baptized 2/10/1866 (not my mom's grandmother, possibly died and named second Mary? Not sure Irish did that, but Americans did!)

    Patrick baptized 9/15/1867

    Elizabeth baptized 8/1/1869

Mary 2/11/1871 (my mother's grandmother we think)  Would they have baptized her the day she was born, or one year later?  We may be off on birth year.

    Honor baptized 12/9/1872

    Edward baptized 6/6/1875

Lawerence baptized 2/26/1877 (the uncle my mom wrote letters to...possibly married to a woman named Annie Power July 4, 1921 in Ferbane.  My mom has a  photo that says "Annie Power 1929")

    John baptized 10/27/1878

    Michael baptized 7/9/1882

    Joseph baptized 5/4/1884

    Peter.....no baptism info on him....

  • Hello

I hope you dont mind me joining in.  Yes there are lots of Dunicans in Pullough (thats how it is spelled here)  If it is ok I am going to post you query to a closed Pullough group and I know that there are a few Dunicans on that group.

Attached is the marriage record for Edward - Dunican is spelled funny - Donakin to Elizabeth Winne - dont know if you have this already.  They got married in the Catholic Church in Ferbane (about 6 miles from Pullough) 4th April 1864. Edwards father was Thomas Donakin and Brides father was Laurance Winne.

  • Im not sure if you have these records or not but attached are 4 records of births for Elizabeth, Patrick, Mary and Thomas.  As you can see the surname is spelled different each time.

I have posted you query to the Pullough group
