Hello I live in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. I would so appreciated any help in finding my great-grandfather John Dwyer, who married a Elizabeth Hayes and who had a son Jeremiah, born in 1866. John might have moved to New York, during the great leave taking, and the son Jeremiah eventualy to farm near, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I was raised in a Canadian prairie orphan home and now, nearing eighty years, beginning to learn about my family. I have been to Ireland once, just loved it, and would like to come again to visit Tipperary. That may be awhile with the pandemic raging. One hopes. Stay well, take care.

Hi Woodskid, I searched some subscription site and Irish Genealogy a free site for the birth and a possible marriage to no avail. Civil registration commecnced in Ireland in 1864 so the birth should be recorded. There are a number of Jeremiah Hayes births but no mother Elizabeth Hayes, there are various Dwyer / Hayes marriages but no Jeremiah birth to any of them. Can you pinpoint any other children to see if we could find the couple, mind you did they marry in Ireland. I ask as I am aware that the town you mention Peterborough was founded and a lot of Irish went there, I have had recent contact with two people from the area, Emily township who went in about 1830, there is a reunion planned for founding families there in either 2023 or 2025.
While it will not assist you in your search there is a site here that may interest you, https://tipperarystudies.ie/historical-society/
While both your surnames are common in Tipperary if you can think of any more information please revert and I will have another look. There are a few Tipperary Facebook pages if you do that genealogy but as you do not have an exact or close location it would be difficult to make a connection.
Hope something turns up for you.
Stay Safe

Thank you Pat. That is a very generous response and much encouraging. I am pleased to hear about the reunion plans from your contacts. I will pursue that and redouble my efforts to find out more about John Dwyer and Elizabeth Hayes. Stay well, take care.

I belong to Ancestry and can view mainly the Canadian records. There was a daughter Clara of Jeremiah Dwyer that died in 1848 and she is also buried in Douro.

Hello Sent on this last day of a tryiing year, with sincere hopes that all reading this will have a happier year to come. So, addessed to those who have kindly assited me in the recent past, I have lately made discoveries: here offered in the hope of guidance to learn more about my family origins in Tiperary. To be succinct:
My great great great grandfather, Thomas Dwyer sailed on the Elizabeth out of Cork in the May of 1825 as part of Jeremiah Dwyer's family contracted to the Robinson Group settlers bound for Upper Canada. With Thomas was his new bride Mary (Heffernan_. My grandfather John Dwyer was born to Mary on that voyage. Emily/Cahsel Pariah records reveal that Thomas (in latin) Dwyer wed Mary Heffernan on 9 February, 1825.
The parents of Thomas were Demetrio (in the Latin) Dwyer and one Alicia Hogan of Tippary. I found this vital information on the baptismal records of Thomas's sister Alicia Dwyer (baptized 16 July, 1816.) and also from the baptismal record of another sister Judith Dwyer in 1811. Both girls were baptized on Emily/Cashel parish.
I also have the names and ages on others in Jeremiah's large (8) family on board the Elizabeth.
Depending ont the wretched pandemic, I still hope to visit Tipperary in May of 2022.
Best wishes to all Francis Dwyer, Cranbrook, British Columbia Canada
