Hi,
I am trying to find the burial place of Edmund (recorded as Edward on his death certificate) Whitaker or Whittaker b. 1795 in Rossendale, Lancashire, England.
He died in Lanesboro on 25 November 1873. I don't believe he was Catholic. There is no address. It just says he was married and a tailor as his occupation but he was also a retired soldier (Chelsea Pensioner). His wife was named Margaret and I have found a death for a Margaret in Strokestown that may or may not be her.
He had 2 daughters Margaret Ann (b.1832) and Elizabeth (b.1839) and sons but I've traced all of them and they weren't around Longford. I dont know if the daughters were local or if they married, No idea about them at all.
The wife's maiden name was Donough or Donahoe or O'Donoghue. Different on every mention of her on records. Was that even a local name?
I've tried finding out through them and by asking the local library but I havent had any luck.
I would really appreaciate any leads on where I should be looking.
Thanks for any help.

Judi, there is a Church of Ireland (Anglican) website here and they may tell you what graveyard they have, the RC Parish name was Rathcline, https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library
The name Donough or McDonough sometimes McDonagh etc is a different name to Donoghue etc, variants of spelling are not unusual.
There is a private Facebook group on Longford Genealogy and you may get lucky. Apply to join.
I looked at the death cert and see two McDonough deaths above him on the same page so may indicate that is the name in the area.
You can use this website to see the local townlands etc https://www.townlands.ie/longford/ These are the civil parishes.
Good Luck

Judi,
I meant to add that James Munn Whittaker was born about 1844 at Rossindale, Lancaster and enlisted in the 106th Regiment of Foot at Longford on 24th April 1863, aged 19. He was in the 56th Regiment of Foot by the time of his marriage in 1870.
Rossendale, Lancaster was also the address given for Edmund Whittaker who was born in 1799, and who enlisted in the 15th Regiment of Foot in 1815.
