Edward Blakeney born 1659, Castleblakeney, Galway, Ireland died 1700  His wife Deborah Staunton also died in Castleblakeney but I do not know the year

I am hoping to find a burial site or marker for Edward Blakeney or any of his family. He may have been a Lieutenant.  His father, Major Robert Blakeney and his mother, Susannah Ormsby also died in Castleblakeney.

Any help appreciated..

  • Dear Billi:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!  There are some online sources that you might be interested in looking at.  The link is below:  https://heritage.galwaycommunityheritage.org/content/places/towns-and-villages/castleblakeney

In addition, there are several graveyards in the area and you can find references to them through FindAGrave.

As your family surname would suggest that your ancestors were landowners, the Landed Estates database is worth a look.  The website is:  http://landedestates.nuigalway.ie:8080/LandedEstates/jsp/estate-show.jsp?id=869  and I believe that the family that you may be looking for is the Blakeney (Abbert) family.  You will note at the bottom of the page that there are several articles about family trees associated with this family and you may find the information about the graveyard from one of those articles.  If you need further assistance or have any other questions, please let us know.  There are Galway volunteers who may be able to assist and they may reply to this post.  The very best of luck with your research.  If you would like to create an Ancestor profile on the Blakeney family, you can do so by clicking on the XO Chronicles tab at the top of this page.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
