I am trying to find a definite date of birth for ANNE McCUE, daughter of Edward McCue and Margaret McDonald.  I believe Ann was born between 1824 and 1832 in Queens County (Laois).  She has a sister whose name is Bridget McCue born about 1841.  There is a possibility that Bridget is Anne's "half-sister".  Edward was married in Laois, Portaoise, Maryborough to Margaret McDonald on 2 Oct 1838 in the diocese of Kildare & Leighlin.   Anne was married in 1852 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA to James Farrell.  They had seven children.  I find Edward McCue and Bridget McCue in New Orleans also.  Any ideas of when they immigrated?  And any help on finding a definite birth date for Anne would be greatly appreciated.  Is Bridget really Anne's half sister?  Thank you.

  • Hi Julie!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and do not see a baptismal record for an Ann McCue with father Edward. Also, do not see a Bridget McCue baptismal record with father Edward. There were no baptismal records for any children of Edward McCue and Margaret McDonald. Most of the RC parishes in Co. Laois have records that go back to the 1820 period or earlier. Portlaoise baptismal records start in 1826. THree parishes have later records.

Possibly Edward and Margaret emigrated soon after their 1839 marriage. You may want to add Edward and Margaret and their emigration story to our XO Chronicles site.

  • Could McCue be McHugh?

  • Tony:

Yes, the two surnames were used interchangably. However, the Roots Ireland search engine looks for records with both spellings.

  • Tony and Roger, thank you both for helping me.  Yes, I have seen the name McCue spelled like McHugh, McHue, McQue.  Still nothing.  Still searching.  Thanks again!
