My 3x great grandma was Ellen Callaghan born Cork 1831/2. She married Thomas Brown in Greenwich in December 1855 and had a family in Eltham. On the marriage record it states her father to be Timothy Callaghan. I have trouble finding generations further back in Cork. I found one record of an Ellen Callaghan born Glantagh/ Glantane around that time with mother stated as Johanna Leonard and father Timothy Callaghan.Any help is most appreciated!

Are you certain of the birth date of 1831/1832 as I found a record for an Ellen Callaghan, father Timothy Callaghan and mother Margaret Daly but the birth date was 18/12/1838. Ballyhooley, Castletownroche Cork

In the 1881 UK census, living at the same address as Thomas and Ellen Brown, are John and Catherine Barry and their many children, all born in Cork. It’s quite possible that Catherine is the sister of Ellen Brown.
Maybe search them and see if it leads to any info about Ellen?

Ellen definitely born 1831/2.
I will look into the Barry family as you could be on to something there!

What’s interesting is Catherine Barry on the 1881 census named one of her children Ellen and another Johana. On the ancestry.com entry for an Ellen Callaghan is the place of Glantagh/ Glantane in Cork and the mother is named Johana. I know names pass down in families. Worth investigating!

I could only find an Irish marriage for a Catherine Callaghan and a David Barry. Any help on locating Catherine Barry (Callaghan) and a connection to a sister Ellen Callaghan and a father Timothy Callaghan in Cork is much appreciated.
