G’day, I am Australian and my 2nd Great Grandmother Ellen McCollum came from Ireland, her birth is listed as 2 October 1866 and she married my 2nd Great Grandfather George Haydon Manning in Sydney Australia on the 11th of August 1877, I am trying to find out her lineage and also how and why she travelled to Australia, on her marriage certificate she has listed Ellen Condell as her mother, and Archibold McCollum as her father, coming from Gallway, Ireland, this is all I can find on her that is hard evidence of where she came from .. everywhere else gives me different parents and places eg ancestry.com has her mother as Ellen Jones but her father is listed correctly as Archibold McCollum, also coming from Carlow, so I’m unsure if he remarried or it’s incorrect .. if anyone can help me I’d be greatly appreciative.

I wonder why she listed her mother as Ellen Condell on her wedding day .. odd that the witnesses at her parents wedding were both Condell’s also… I wonder if something happened to Ellen Jones and Archibald had a relationship with one of the Condell family ..

Further research might clear this up, but then again, it might be a mystery forever.
Did Ellen McCallum's mother die and an Ellen Condell became her stepmother or foster mother?
Did Ellen Jones remarry, to a Condell?
Did the person transcribing the record make an error? (You might try to see the original handwritten record.)
