  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message.

Given Dominic?s year of birth, if he was born in Ireland it would have been recorded by the General Register?s Office. I suggest that you contact them. Hopefully they will be able to find his birth record for you which will then give you more information on what part of Ireland he was from and also his parents etc. Here are their contact details:

  • Hi Emma,

Thanks for that - have tried contacing these before without much success.  Are their records available online?  This address appears to be different to that in my records.

    Thanks

  • Is the address that you have in Dublin? There are offices in both Dublin and Roscommon however, it may be best to contact Roscommon as the biggest collection of records are there.

The records are not available online however you can search the indexes to records up to 1958 online at:

    https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347

For more information on these records and their indexes check:

    I hope this helps,

    Emma

  • Hi Emma,

Thanks for that I will certainly give it a shot!  Truth is the only reference we have to Dominic Michael is his merchant navy CRS10 which states "place of birth Eire, 1919 ".  However, during WW2 he got into difficulties in Italy (some sort of military court) and appealed to the Irish Government for support which was forcoming..  So there must be prof somewhere!
